Amarinth.com was designed for Amarinth
Ltd. a specialist manufacturer of industrial pumping equipment.
The service provides secure business-to-business tools that simplify
business processes, improve communication and integrate with Amarinths
back office systems - minimising costs and improving the company's
relationships with its business customers.
Rolling out a service
The first phase of the site, completed in 10 days, provided general
company information and allowed registered business customers to
place and track their orders online. Next we introduced an automatic order planner. This calculates
the dates for key stages in the order process (order approved, manufacturing
complete, assembly started, order dispatched.) Amarinth people check
and approve these, then publish them to customers on the web. As
each stage as is completed, the system automatically sends email
notifications to the customer.
More recently, we've added a shopping basket so customers can create
bespoke orders from individual components. They select the parts
using a range of search options (by number, by category or other
description.) Pricing and discounts are calculated dynamically.
Access to different parts of the site can now be restricted based
on users' privileges.
Future developments will add conditional routing of orders to approved
3rd-party suppliers via an XML interface.
Behind the scenes
The site uses a mixture of PHP, Javascript, DHTML, CSS and mySQL.
The structure of the site is very modular which allows rapid integration
of new business tools and features. We are now developing automatic
syncronisation with Lotus Notes and an MS SQLServer based accounting
and MRP system (Material Requirement Planning.)
